At this moment I’m sitting by the open window, a dark cloud is looming in the horizon and thunder has been rumbling on loudly for about ten minutes now. I’m the dictionary definition of a pluviohile, I literally open my eyes wide and begin to operate on an entirely different level when it rains, rain charges my soul the way Superman charges by the sun, hence this post that has been playing around again again in my mind.

I’ve also decided that perhaps I should have pursued a career in book-publishing. Why didn’t I? I don’t know, perhaps because it doesn’t pay too well? Perhaps I’m going to one day but until then I will stick to writing whatever comes to my mind in my little blog and you, my readers, will be the lucky ones to suffer through :p Read more »

New Delicious Winter Goods from Dallah Bakery

By | November 19, 2012

If you are a follower of my blog -and instagram account- you might recognize my adoration of Dallah’s local bakery (post). Everything they make: the coffee, the Elba, the Ghraiba, etc. is a favorite of mine and I keep going back for more and would serve their products for my guests at my own gatherings (post) (post). Last weekend I tried not one but two of Dallah’s new and very delicious Read more »

Picture of the Week: Warmth

By | January 23, 2012

In this cold weather there is nothing more appreciated than a flame of a heater ablaze with the warmth and light of the night. Especially those high flames of the pyramid like heaters every restaurant seems to have in its outdoors area. They are so lovely, modern, and most importantly warm am always glad they are around.

Good Saturday Morning…

By | January 21, 2012

Its freezing! Even though the arrival of the storm prediction wasn’t very accurate we still ended up with almost freezing weather! Shino hatha!

Today is a day for the following: Besht (check), Chai o 7aleeb emhayyal (check), something to keep us warm and we huddle beside (dafaya, check), and Qaymar (Alban dairy’s, check). I am planning on having a good and warming Kuwaiti style breakfast of bread, qaymar (clotted cream), and 3asal (honey) with chai o 7leeb emhayyal (cardamom infused milk). As a matter of fact I cannot wait for the morning to arrive so I can taste the famous Alban Dairy’s qaymar that everyone has been talking about!

Sounds like a plan to me. What about you? What are your plans for this chilly morning?

Shino ‘3adakom Elyoom?

By | January 12, 2012

Thursday is here and the weekend is about to start! What are your plans for lunch? Eating in the office? Bel zwara? At home? Skipping lunch? The village in Bul7a9ani? It is still coldish but mostly rainy out there.

I’m craving something warm and wintery. I want to get out my Raclette oven that I haven’t used in years. Boil some baby potatoes, cut some fresh veggies, slice some soft bread, and melt some slices of Raclette cheese using my oven.

I want to see the bubbles form on the surface of the Raclette slice. I want to pour the gooey goodness on top of my potatoes and season with herbs and take a delicious bite that will warm my insides and make me feel both content and happy. Oh how I love Raclette.

I once posted about my Raclette oven in my very early days of blogging (post). Going back to that post made me nostalgic to the old blogging days. Horrible pictures though.

Good Saturday Morning…

By | December 24, 2011

Good Saturday morning!

How are you spending your Saturday? In Kuwait? At home? In the Chalet? Travelling somewhere? Many people I know are travelling to either London, NYC, or Dubai!

So what’s for breakfast today? I am craving something very simple yet very Kuwaiti… a small piece of qer9 3qaili with the aroma of saffron and cardamom wafting from it with every bite and a cup of hot steamed milk infused with some more saffron and cardamom <3 Yummy! Perfect winter breakfast if there is any winter left at all that is.

So what are you having for breakfast?

Good Saturday Morning…

By | November 26, 2011

and Happy Hijri new year to you too! Kil 3am wentaw ebkhair!

Elyoom Saturday o bacher ejaza! Double the pleasure! What are you having for breakfast? Ana madry eb9ara7a… these days all I can think of in this weather is hot chocolate, thick rich chocolaty and warm. I want to cradle it in my cold hands and sip it slowly while sitting outdoors and gazing at lovely scenery.

Now let me ask you, wain a hearty good hot chocolate in Kuwait? A really good worth ruining your diet for? ‘3air Chocolate Bar?

The Newly Re-Opened Chocolate Bar Al Bida’a

By | November 23, 2011

Chocolate Bar is one of my ever favorite hangouts in Kuwait. Many don’t know this fact but I must confess that many Dathra episodes and Dathra book editing had taken place while sitting alone in Chocolate Bar. My me time is a day a week when I go to Chocolate Bar on my own with my laptop, order my usual, and lose Read more »

Picture of the Week: Under the Sea

By | November 21, 2011

Last weekend we spent some quality time at the beach in the most amazing weather ever! I kept humming the song “Under the Sea” from the little mermaid movie which is one of my favorites. If I only knew how to swim, I would take diving lessons, take my camera with a waterproof casing, and shoot the beauty underneath the sea that must be mesmirizing.

For now however I would stick to open oyster shells discarded on the beach :p Shraykom feeha y7leelha proudly perched on top of the rock?

Winter in Q8 Means: Kites in the Kuwaiti Sky

By | November 20, 2011

We were passing by the Messilah area yesterday on F7ai7eel highway when we saw a lot of beautiful kites being flown around. Whenever winter is black in Kuwait we see beautiful kites flown around on the weekend especially if its windy. They always make me content with happiness.

Notice the round grounded kites? I’ve never seen those before! Are they new? They do look good.

I wish I knew how to fly a kite. I wonder where can I go get myself one and where can I learn to fly it?  I remember having a yellow kite when we were children but I could never get it to lift off the ground. Do you know how to fly a kite? Ever done it in Kuwait?

Rejoice… the Good Weather Time in Kuwait is Here!

By | October 4, 2011

Yesterday morning as I stepped out of the house on my way to work I was greeted by the most amazing cool breeze ever teasing my face and tingling my senses.

The good weather time in Kuwait is BACK! I couldn’t relax until we sat outside in Starbucks sipping frappucinos and chatting lazily while the nice breeze blowed in out way and everyone around us order frappucinos and sipping them outdoors happily. The weather is just too good to be cooped up inside and pass on.

From now on the queues will begin on the outdoors tables. This is the best time to be in Kuwait, when the weather is at its best and sitting outside is the best option. I cannot wait for another breakfast outdoors <3

Did you make the best of yesterday’s weather? Whats your favorite spot for hanging out outdoors in the good weather of Kuwait?

Winter in Q8 Means: Chai Fa7am…

By | February 18, 2011

Good morning! A lovely winter day in Q8 deserves a good breakfast outside with chai fa7am prepared on our table <3

There is nothing like chai fa7am… the tea tastes completely different… it’s like there is a smoky edge to it… and you must drink it in a little estekana bu noq6a… brings the flavour better… you take a sip, the warm liquid cascades down your throat and spreads the warmth until it reaches the tips of your toes…  mmm

Where are you having your Chai Fa7am toda?

Winter in Q8 Means: Flamingoes in Shuwaikh!

By | November 8, 2010

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

What i love about the arrival of winter time in Q8 is the drive to the free trade zone… i would buy myself a yummy drink, go to where the flamingoes are, roll down the window and stare at them, listen to them chirp or tweet or whatever sound they make… I always fail to take a decent photograph of them and i see many who come and try… the ones above are this year’s photos…

I wonder if they have been doing that forever or it’s a new thing? Before 2007 i found no record of “Flamingoes in Kuwait”… and why only Shuwaikh? What’s so special -aside from the pollution and the nasty odours-… why?

ITS RAINING IN Q8 AT LAST! Congratulations & Good morning :)
