How to Make a bowl of Vegan Banana “Nice” Cream?

By | September 4, 2016

tmobnc-004

I’m not a vegan, and can never be for my love of dairy is too great to abandon. In the recent year or so the Vegan movement seem to be taking over the planet for a moment -vegetarians, where are you?- and whenever I browse the social media account of a vegan I happen to come across one version or another of something they call “Nicecream” or “Nice Cream” and they keep raving about it the way they were raving about Read more »

Lunch at GIA Mediterranean Cafe

By | October 21, 2013

ok

I think it was back during the holy month of Ramadan when I first started following the instagram account of GIA cafe. They were testing their dishes and I knew by looking at what they had to offer that I wanted to try them out, really wanted to, for they reminded me of Ottelenghi’s in London. After a long wait, they finally opened their doors yesterday afternoon and I wasted no time heading over to GIA’s for some lunch.  Read more »

Visiting Dubai’s Ramadan Night Market

By | September 11, 2013

rmid-019

I’ve always heard that the exhibitions that are held in the UAE were spectacular and amount of effort that goes into those expos was unparalleled. I’ve never had the chance to go to an expo in Dubai before but while I was visiting this past Eid holiday I learned from the instagram account of fellow blogger Karamillah from the Abu Dhabi, that her cookie business, K’s Cookies, will be participating in a Ramadan Night Market expo in Dubai and I knew I had to pass by and check it out. By | September 7, 2013

bdmt-011

Last week we had the pleasure of being invited to a private tasting event of the new menu at The Butcher’s Den. I’ve been to the Butcher’s Den before and liked it a lot although the service was a bit clunky since they were in their soft opening phase still. Now that they are operating full time I expected the service to be top notch and indeed it was. Read more »

Dinner at Pintxos Restaurant

By | September 1, 2013

dapk-021

There, at the very end of the Seif strip of restaurant overlooking the Seif Palace, sits a restaurant space that now has the name Pintxos. Many restaurants have come and gone in this particular spot, an Italian one if I recall correctly, then another Japanese one. None of the restaurants that opened in that spot were successful even though the area is popular and the restaurant space is big with lovely outdoors seating. It wasn’t meant to be I suppose. Lovely French Chocolates from The City Magazine

By | August 24, 2013

tcmc-001

How often do you got a world champion fine chocolatier from France call up your phone asking for your address in Kuwait? Yes, calling from France. I was quite baffled, who on earth would give my number to a French chocolatier? Turns out The City Magazine had a nice surprise in store for me and decided to send me the chocolates, and I love nothing more than a box of fine chocolates as a gift. Read more »

Breakfast at The Farm Restaurant in Dubai

By | August 22, 2013

tfbp-014

Each time I’m in Dubai there must be a list of newly opened places I’ve never been before to explore. On the top of my list was The Farm restaurant recommended by many people I know, doing so while gushing about the breathtaking scenery and the amazing food. Since I was there for the Eid holiday and the first breakfast after Ramadan is my number one breakfast of the year, I knew I it should be in The Farm. Read more »

The Gelato Marathon

By | August 17, 2013

tgmag-002

Since the holy month of Ramadan and Eid days are now over I’m trying to get into my normal daily life routine, plus going on a diet to control my appetite after the daily feasts of the past few weeks. I have been doing very good, only my friends who I haven’t been out with in forever were craving gelato and one thing led to another and we found ourselves having a mini gelato marathon in the Avenues. The Cronuts Craze Has Arrived to Kuwait

By | July 29, 2013

tgnwmf-004-1

Cronuts, the latest culinary trend and most viral food craze across the globe, are a product of a marriage between a croissant and a donut. This new treat was invented by chef Dominique Ansel who, in May 2010, began selling his cronuts to the people of NYC and they’ve been the IT dessert sensation every since. The cornets are supposed to be unbelievably good. So good, in fact, that the people of Read more »

By | July 29, 2013

tgnwmf-011-1

It’s been a while since I’ve had friends over. I’ve been too tired lately and with all the Ramadan fasting and meal preparations I haven’t had a moment to relax. During the holy month of Ramadan people gather for a “ghabga” and there are many ghabgas going around. A ghabga is a dinner party Read more »

Last weekend I had the pleasure of having Man’oushe Saj Trays sent to me for my iftar table. Our Very Own Qerqaia’an

By | July 28, 2013

ovoq-002-1

One sure way to get rid of all the qerqaia’an candy lying around the house beckoning for you to come over and feast on it is to give it away on the spot with your very own qerqaia’an! There will be children knocking on your door anyway and they want candy! In my version of the qerqaia’an there are not nuts, lots of chocolates that I personally would eat plus lollipops and candies, and I also add a few bubble maker bottles for the children to play with. One of the most elegant and to the point qerqaia’an gifts I’ve received this Ramadan is baby Yousef’s first qerqaia’an distributed by his lovely mother Joumana of The Side Talk blog. The qerqaia’an came in an elegant silver box tied with a golden ribbon and baby Yousef’s name written on the lid in beautiful golden Arabian calligraphy. Read more »

Sugar Coated Strawberry Cookie Bites

By | July 22, 2013

tsdicfscq-006-1

One of the most delicious culinary combinations ever invented are strawberries dipped in chocolate. I personally can eat an entire bucket of strawberries dipped in chocolate, or chocolate strawberries as I call them, and still want more. I remember in 2006 there was only one or two stores that sold strawberries dipped in chocolate but these days there are many around and I’m grateful for that. Sugar Coated, a home business that sells chocolate strawberries sent me a box full of them the other day to try.  Read more »

By | July 21, 2013

redejufor-013-1

Since I started today’s post with a healthy streak I thought I’d continue from the last post. Another trend that’s been going on in Kuwait for the past few months is the “detox juice diet”. One of the providers of the diet is a new business called Re and they set you up with a few day’s worth of different drinks naturally pressed and Read more »

By | July 11, 2013

tugsnfr-009-1

More special Ramadan flavours are appearing everywhere, and this time two new special Ramadan flavours came from The Gathering. I’ve tried The Gathering’s molten cakes many times before and they are usually my quick on-the-go guilty treats since they are located right there in our Co-op. The night before Ramadan I received two heavy cream and Tiffany blue boxes of goodies with a card from The Gathering. Read more »

The Making of Ramadan’s Samboosa

By | June 25, 2013

sbmk-003It’s time again to bring out the samboosa dough, for my Ramadan iftar table is never complete without a plate of hot bubbling baked samboosa (samoosa) in the very centre! With fourteen days to go until the start of the Holy Month of Ramadan where muslims fast all day long and break their fast at sunset. A favourite Ramadan preparation activity of mine is wrapping the Samboosa’s myself at home using my own filling mixes. Read more »

By | June 17, 2013

witnc-001

Ever wondered how the contents of the Nespresso capsule brings you joy every morning by producing your coffee fix? I had very few limited edition Dark Chocolate Nespresso capsules left in my possesion and I was being very stingy with them. One day the inevitable happened and my machine chewed up the capsule somehow and wouldn’t produce any coffee. I replaced the Read more »
