Dreading the moment the coach calls out to them to spilt into teams, she fidgeted in her wake, not exactly sure what to do with her hands. What was she doing with her hands a moment ago? When she wasn’t so aware of the fact that the time has come for the ultimate popularity battle? Read more »
Since the holy month of Ramadan and Eid days are now over I’m trying to get into my normal daily life routine, plus going on a diet to control my appetite after the daily feasts of the past few weeks. I have been doing very good, only my friends who I haven’t been out with in forever were craving gelato and one thing led to another and we found ourselves having a mini gelato marathon in the Avenues. Cronuts, the latest culinary trend and most viral food craze across the globe, are a product of a marriage between a croissant and a donut. This new treat was invented by chef Dominique Ansel who, in May 2010, began selling his cronuts to the people of NYC and they’ve been the IT dessert sensation every since. The cornets are supposed to be unbelievably good. So good, in fact, that the people of Read more »
It’s been a while since I’ve had friends over. I’ve been too tired lately and with all the Ramadan fasting and meal preparations I haven’t had a moment to relax. During the holy month of Ramadan people gather for a “ghabga” and there are many ghabgas going around. A ghabga is a dinner party Read more »
One of the most elegant and to the point qerqaia’an gifts I’ve received this Ramadan is baby Yousef’s first qerqaia’an distributed by his lovely mother Joumana of The Side Talk blog. The qerqaia’an came in an elegant silver box tied with a golden ribbon and baby Yousef’s name written on the lid in beautiful golden Arabian calligraphy. Read more »
Considering the state of deadlock traffic post-iftar in Kuwait, I’ve decided not to venture outside my door until the end of the holy month of Ramadan. However, we decided to have a dinner gathering at our friend Shaima and it was supposed to be a casual get together ghabga to welcome back our friend FourMe home. A ghabga is a gathering or party usually held between iftar and suhoor meals in the holy month of Ramadan. Read more »
My friend and estranged blogger eshda3wa dropped by my place on the second day of Ramadan in keeping up with her tradition of giving away Ramdan noqsa’s, a noqsa is the name we call the gifts in Kuwait by the way. This year, eshda3wa’s gift was also traditional with a wicker tray and five mini tin pots inside. Read more »
I’ve been a fan of Or Bakery ever since I’ve bitten into my very first chocolate brownie with an oozing liquid chocolate centre (post). Many chocolate brownies later, Or remained my favourite Kuwaiti-made chocolate destination and I always wondered why they didn’t open their own shop. I think 2013 deserves to be called the year where Kuwaiti businesses expanded from homes to actual stores, for Or Bakery has finally opened up a shop in Burj Jassim. Read more »
A few weeks back I saw a picture of a very delicious looking chocolate cake on instagram, it was the The Chocolate aux Noisettes, or the Chocolate Hazelnut cake by The Blue Bakery whose dessert pictures are heart-wrenching to say the least. Ever since I saw the cake’s picture, I couldn’t get it out of my head and whenever I saw another picture of that succulent looking cake I would start tasting and smelling chocolate hazelnut instantly. I knew it only a matter of time before Read more »
A year ago I’ve been driving in Hawalli when I saw a big old house with men wearing traditional guards costumes standing outside. As I got closer, I could make out the sign over the door, “Bait Al-Outhman Museum” it said in Arabic! I wanted to go inside but back then it was still not open to the public. A year later and finally my lovely friend Pink Girl passed by and reported back to me that it was open indeed and it was breathtaking. I adore everything historical therefore I wasted no time grabbing my camera and visiting the museum to check it out. Read more »
Back in November, which now feels just like yesterday, I’ve been granted a sneak preview of the Gathering Bistro before it was officially open (post). Fast forward six months later and we finally had the chance to try it out for dinner and we had an excellent time! The weather was windy and cool, the tables filled out quickly, a nice soundtrack playing subtly in the background and at one point Dido’s white flag was -yes, I’m a fan- and most importantly, the food was really good! First we had to try the Cheesy potato bombs, they seemed smaller that what we remember but they were as tasty and excellent as a comfort food dish can be. Read more »
I’ve been unpacking some moving boxes, something that’s about a year over-due but it’s better late than never I suppose. One of the boxes I opened was labeled “books” and what was inside? My old Baby-sitters club books! Read more »
They say if you count the numbers of your real friends using the fingers one hand, then you can consider yourself lucky. I was blessed by many friends, some close and some distant, some good and some barely make the requirements of a ‘friend’. But then I have “twin” friends that keep surprising me with unexpected things that make me happy out of the blue. Why? Just because they can. They ask for no recognition, not even gratitude, just for my happiness. Read more »
I’ve known Standy for as long as I’ve been a blogger. Back in the days when blogs were stricly personal and we used to know what everyone’s day was like without getting fingers pointed at us for being too self centered ego maniac. Anyways, Standy lives in Muscat, Oman and though she blogs once in every few months now adays she posted on Instagram that she was heading to Kuwait. One thing Read more »

Have you ever heard the saying “wish on something strong enough and it might very well come true?”. I might have my doubts regarding this sentence before but earlier in 2012 I did wish on something strong enough, the wish came from the deepest part within me, so strong I almost felt it emitting in waves “it was scary a bit”, and it happened! It actually Read more »
