My Relaxed Ramadan Ghabga

By | July 29, 2013

tgnwmf-011-1

It’s been a while since I’ve had friends over. I’ve been too tired lately and with all the Ramadan fasting and meal preparations I haven’t had a moment to relax. During the holy month of Ramadan people gather for a “ghabga” and there are many ghabgas going around. A ghabga is a dinner party Read more »

Hello Our Two New Stray Kittens

By | July 28, 2013

olc-1

It all started during the maghrib prayers time last week. My husband was on his way out to go and pray in the nearby mosque when he heard soft mewing. There was a tiny kitten, mewing at him and licking her lips. He came back inside and told me about the new arrival and so he gave her Kiri cheese and she ate it happily. Read more »

Our Very Own Qerqaia’an

By | July 28, 2013

ovoq-002-1

One sure way to get rid of all the qerqaia’an candy lying around the house beckoning for you to come over and feast on it is to give it away on the spot with your very own qerqaia’an! There will be children knocking on your door anyway and they want candy! In my version of the qerqaia’an there are not nuts, lots of chocolates that I personally would eat plus lollipops and candies, and I also add a few bubble maker bottles for the children to play with. The Night of the Ramadan Ghabga

By | July 21, 2013

angn-006-1

Considering the state of deadlock traffic post-iftar in Kuwait, I’ve decided not to venture outside my door until the end of the holy month of Ramadan. However, we decided to have a dinner gathering at our friend Shaima and it was supposed to be a casual get together ghabga to welcome back our friend FourMe home. A ghabga is a gathering or party usually held between iftar and suhoor meals in the holy month of Ramadan. Read more »

Today is the 13th day of the holy month of Ramadan and it’s official, the Qerqaia’an is here! Qerqaia’an is like a traditional Kuwaiti occasion where children dress up and go from house to house signing and getting candy in return, kinda like a Kuwaiti Halloween. It’s a happy occasion long awaited by families who prepare for it months in advance and every year it seems people of Kuwait are Read more »

Happy Birthday to Me… My 30 Things List

By | July 17, 2013

ttingtbtt

I was born in Ramadan 1430 in the hijri, or lunar calendar. The lunar year is now 1434 and today is my birthday again and the first birthday to coincide with my Lunar birth month as well, which is something that occurs once every 33 years only! Happy birthday to me, I’m 19 once more and forever and I have to say being in your 30’s is not bad at all. If anything, somehow it feels better than being in your 20’s. You are much wiser, more accomplished, more confident, less awkward, and people take you more seriously plus you don’t look that old. Read more »

My Favourite Ramadan 2013 TV Ads

By | July 15, 2013

rtvattat

For the past few years the ads we watch on TV during Ramadan have become somewhat of a thing to look forward to since many companies compete on producing the best ads for Ramadan. It’s a good thing considering we cannot watch five minutes of any TV series without being interrupted by ads, at least the ads are good and I enjoy watching them over and over again.  Read more »

More special Ramadan flavours are appearing everywhere, and this time two new special Ramadan flavours came from The Gathering. I’ve tried The Gathering’s molten cakes many times before and they are usually my quick on-the-go guilty treats since they are located right there in our Co-op. The night before Ramadan I received two heavy cream and Tiffany blue boxes of goodies with a card from The Gathering. Read more »

Many companies and restaurants in Kuwait celebrate the arrival of the Holy Month of Ramdan by releasing special or limited edition flavours for their menu items. mcrg-002-1

The holy month of Ramadan is almost here and for the past three or four years we’ve gotten used to receiving a big box chockfull of Ramadan supplies from Mishref Co-op where my husband has an account. I arrived home yesterday to a big fat colourful box tied with a pink ribbon, so heavy you couldn’t lift it on your own. At first I thought someone had sent me a gift box but looking closely I realised it had the Mishref Co-op logo on it! Never before have I seen a local Co-op distribute such a beautiful and well thought of gift before! Read more »

Good Bye Alphonso Mangoes :(

By | June 26, 2013

gbmdm-011-1

The time has come to bid my favourite fruit ever, the Alphonso Mangoes, adieu. After an exceptionally long season where I’ve devoured every single golden mango that passed through my threshold, at last I can sit back and wave good bye for the imported cartons of mangoes. There are still a alphonso mangoes around but the taste has changed a bit, you know it’s time to let go. I’m also not interested in any other kind of mango, for once you taste the Alphonsos then that’s that. Read more »

Westfield Stratford City isn’t new per-say, Europe’s largest shopping mall was opened in September 2011, but I’ve never had the chance to actually make the trip before. When I finally did taking the Jubilee line, I realised it is indeed very huge, complete with a Holiday Inn hotel next door. Read more »

Ever wondered how the contents of the Nespresso capsule brings you joy every morning by producing your coffee fix? A while back I was browsing different instagram profiles when I came upon a mouth-watering picture of a white sponge fruit cake. I’m a sucker for a good food picture, it can do wonders to my cravings so I checked out the rest of the pictures in that instagram profile. Not only were the pictures good, they also were about desserts from a healthy and low-calorie bakery called Elements! I knew it was a matter of time until I placed my order. Read more »

Movie Review: Man of Steel

By | June 16, 2013

miwfim-002

Superman was my favourite childhood superhero. I grew up watching Superman movies, one movie in particular the Superman III we watched over and over and over again whenever we had a meal. My father was a big Superman fan and he bought us all the VHS tapes except for Superman III which he recorded off KTV2 on our VHS video. After Christopher Reeve, no one could fill in his Superman shoes, and after watching Man of Steel, I personally believe no one can.  Read more »

Breakfast at C-Omar in the Avenues

By | June 16, 2013

Growing up in the 80’s meant watching a lot of Egyptian movies and TV serieses. Whenever I was watching and they had breakfast, I’d wish I was joining them at the table and eating from their breakfast, always plates laden with food and people sharing. Therefore when I knew that the modernised Egyptian-themed restaurant C-omar began to serve breakfast, I wanted to go and see what they had to offer.  Read more »
