I’m writing this post with a head buzzing with thoughts, heart fluttering with feelings, and eyes brimming with tears as I’m in a roller coaster of emotions that’s been tumbling since I returned home from work and sat with my iBook copy of the long awaited 8th book of Harry Potter, the one with the Cursed Child.

Is it really an 8th book? A proper sequel to the battle of Hogwarts set 19 years later? I couldn’t allow myself to get too attached the the book nor let myself believe it was a “real” or “100% authentic” new Harry Potter book. I was afraid. I didn’t want to be let down by it, I know its based on a sold out play and its not only J. K. Rowling’s name on the cover, I’m not sure what to expect and I had a feeling that… well.. this story is only make belief and this Harry book is a fraud.  Read more »

The Avenues Summer Carnival

By | September 2, 2013

avcr-029

When I first set foot on the Grand Avenues during the Avenues construction site visit, I could almost imagine a European like walkway lined with cafes and international shops. Then when the Avenues did finally open and became the place to be in Kuwait, it did feel like you were travelling every time you walk down it’s vast corridors. Last week, Read more »

My Relaxed Ramadan Ghabga

By | July 29, 2013

tgnwmf-011-1

It’s been a while since I’ve had friends over. I’ve been too tired lately and with all the Ramadan fasting and meal preparations I haven’t had a moment to relax. During the holy month of Ramadan people gather for a “ghabga” and there are many ghabgas going around. A ghabga is a dinner party Read more »

Our Very Own Qerqaia’an

By | July 28, 2013

ovoq-002-1

One sure way to get rid of all the qerqaia’an candy lying around the house beckoning for you to come over and feast on it is to give it away on the spot with your very own qerqaia’an! There will be children knocking on your door anyway and they want candy! In my version of the qerqaia’an there are not nuts, lots of chocolates that I personally would eat plus lollipops and candies, and I also add a few bubble maker bottles for the children to play with. The Night of the Ramadan Ghabga

By | July 21, 2013

angn-006-1

Considering the state of deadlock traffic post-iftar in Kuwait, I’ve decided not to venture outside my door until the end of the holy month of Ramadan. However, we decided to have a dinner gathering at our friend Shaima and it was supposed to be a casual get together ghabga to welcome back our friend FourMe home. A ghabga is a gathering or party usually held between iftar and suhoor meals in the holy month of Ramadan. Read more »

hbq-004-1

Today is the 13th day of the holy month of Ramadan and it’s official, the Qerqaia’an is here! Qerqaia’an is like a traditional Kuwaiti occasion where children dress up and go from house to house signing and getting candy in return, kinda like a Kuwaiti Halloween. It’s a happy occasion long awaited by families who prepare for it months in advance and every year it seems people of Kuwait are Read more »

Happy Birthday to Me… My 30 Things List

By | July 17, 2013

ttingtbtt

I was born in Ramadan 1430 in the hijri, or lunar calendar. The lunar year is now 1434 and today is my birthday again and the first birthday to coincide with my Lunar birth month as well, which is something that occurs once every 33 years only! Happy birthday to me, I’m 19 once more and forever and I have to say being in your 30’s is not bad at all. If anything, somehow it feels better than being in your 20’s. You are much wiser, more accomplished, more confident, less awkward, and people take you more seriously plus you don’t look that old. Read more »

Many companies and restaurants in Kuwait celebrate the arrival of the Holy Month of Ramdan by releasing special or limited edition flavours for their menu items. Earlier this week a big silver box from Chocolate & Macaron decorated with a huge lime green paper flower arrived on my door step. Inside were the new Ramadan flavours of their delicious macarons with a lovely white roses and tulips flower arrangement.  Read more »

mcrg-002-1

The holy month of Ramadan is almost here and for the past three or four years we’ve gotten used to receiving a big box chockfull of Ramadan supplies from Mishref Co-op where my husband has an account. I arrived home yesterday to a big fat colourful box tied with a pink ribbon, so heavy you couldn’t lift it on your own. At first I thought someone had sent me a gift box but looking closely I realised it had the Mishref Co-op logo on it! Never before have I seen a local Co-op distribute such a beautiful and well thought of gift before! Read more »

The Making of Ramadan’s Samboosa

By | June 25, 2013

sbmk-003It’s time again to bring out the samboosa dough, for my Ramadan iftar table is never complete without a plate of hot bubbling baked samboosa (samoosa) in the very centre! With fourteen days to go until the start of the Holy Month of Ramadan where muslims fast all day long and break their fast at sunset. A favourite Ramadan preparation activity of mine is wrapping the Samboosa’s myself at home using my own filling mixes. Read more »

My Newest Buys at the f2o Shop

By | June 13, 2013

On f2o’s instagram account I saw that there are new summer sketches to be printed on T-Shirts and other things so I passed by, a tad too late for many of the designs were already sold out. I did manage to get me the gorgeous Afro Dude loves Sunkist T-Shirt above and Afro Dude loves KDD ice cream sandwich in black below, I think the ice cream sandwich is becoming the classic star of summer 2013 for some reason. It is that good. Read more »

By | April 10, 2013

Yesterday was the last stay for our Omani blogger friend Standy in Kuwait so we decided -for some reason- she should spend her last day in Kuwait a burger tasting tour. Please note that no burgers were devoured by me during this marathon. Our first stop was to try the sliders in the Open Flame Kitchen (OFK) in 360 Mall.  Read more »

DeBrand Chocolatier’s Opening in the Avenues

By | April 8, 2013

tonodbcitjsota-013-1

Back in June I posted about a big box of chocolates I received from a new chocolatier in Kuwait, DeBrand (post). The chocolate variety I received was vast and very delicious and needless to say nothing lasted a long time at all. Back then I was told that DeBrand’s first branch will be opening in the new Avenues mall sections which were still under construction. Yesterday, and after a long 10 months wait, DeBrand’s first branch was opened in the Avenues. Read more »
