When I first started writing in my blog, almost five years ago, choosing the language to write it wasn’t an issue. Most of the blogs out there were in English, expressing yourself in Arabish wasn’t frowned upon or considered annoying, plus the language of the internet whether you like it or not is English and so are all your settings and blogs you read. Personally, I chose my laptops without an Arabic keyboard just because I find Arabic and technology a bit exhausting. Read more »
Every morning when I open up my Google Reader, the message that it will not be in use by the 1st of July greets me. It’s beyond me why successful and popular application would get the axe. Just like that favourite TV show with so much potential that gets axed just as you are getting addicted to it. C’est la vie, life goes on and as much as it saddens me, I feel like I’ve been evicted from my own home or something, have had to search for an alternative. Read more »
I remember a time in my life when time made sense to people. There was a certain cutoff time for going out, visiting, sleeping, watching TV, or calling people. Ever since the internet was introduced into our lives and we were taken up by the whirlwind of the smart phone usage time seems to make no sense to Read more »
I’ve been hearing amazing things from people in Kuwait who are subscribed to Zain and already are using the 4G LTE technology so when my mobile service provided VIVA enabled their 4G LTE service I called them at once to check how to activate it and if there are any extra charges. The service is for free with no extra charges, all you have to do is send an SMS to activate it and whenever you are within the LTE range you will be connected. These are the steps I followed to enable the 4G LTE on my iPhone 5 in case you didn’t enable it already. Read more »
One day you are sitting on your computer browsing through your data and then BAM something happens and your hard disk is busted. You take the device to a data recovery specialist, you pay money to have your data back, and most of it is indeed back. Now you plug your recovered data into the computer, from the file viewer you can Read more »
One of my friends and the reason why I became a blogger, ex-blogger Yara, thought it was interesting to post a list of my favorite iPhone applications especially since she took my recommednations with the Sleep Cycle app and loved it. As 2012 is about to finish up, I’m looking back and Read more »
I’ve been browsing the App Store on my iPhone last week when I noticed The Sleep Cycle application. It had a high rating and good reviews and given my current state of sleep deprivation I decided to give it a shot. Read more »
Yesterday evening I was trying to shoot a video with my iPhone so I was trying to balance it on a narrow table when it fell, face down, on the ceramic floor. I picked up only to gasp when I saw the screen was shattered! Read more »
My favorite external hard drive, one that had taken many abuse from me over the past year, fell down yesterday. It was a tiny fall, nothing major, like 30 cm from the desk to the carpeted floor. But now it won’t work. Read more »
One of the things that help me get through the Sunday morning blues is thinking about my retirment day. In the olden days women had the chance to retire after working for 15 years. Sadly by the time we started working the law of retiement has been adjusted so a person can retire at age 50 or more.
This morning I went to the “Ta2meenat Ejtema3iya” website -don’t know the name in English and found a calculator that you can use to check the exact date of your retirement day. My retirment day insah2 Allah etha Allah 3a6ana 3omor is 17 July 2030! Not so bad, 18 years, 2 months, and 11 days left to go till my retirement insha2 Allah. Plus, lo and behold, its on the date of my 50th birthday! I hope I am alive, healthy, thin, surrounded by people I love the most, and very happy by then. Insha2 Allah ya rab!
So, my retirement date is 17 July 2030 and I’m already working on my retirement plans. What about your retirement day? You want to calculate it to pass the Sunday blues, click here (link).
ArchofKuwait account on Instagram has a challenge where instagrammers in Kuwait shoot pictures of places in Kuwait and use the hash tag #ArchOfKuwait to enter those pictures into the challenge. Arch of Kuwait then chooses from the best pictures entered and announce them as winners on their Instagram account plus they print them out and hang them in Solo Pizza’s wall!
Guess who was chosen this week? Yes, yours truly! A picture I’ve taken inside Beit 7 while having breakfast there last Saturday!
Thank you ArchofKuwait! You totally made my week for sure! I can’t wait to go to Solo’s and look at my picture of the wall!
You can follow Arch of Kuwait on Instagram on @archofkuwait or view the winners on their website (link).
Our fellow blogger MadeinQ8 had just released an android application where you can view some of their favorite blogs in Kuwait, mine included (yay!).
If you are an android user then you will want to add the application for the favorite blogs updates straight to your android device. You can click here (link) to install.
Good job MadeInQ8 and thank you for including my humble blog. Keep up the good work 😀
Ever since I’ve crossed to the iPhone territory earlier this year I have been very happy! My iPhone is dazzling! I keep wondering why it took me so long to purchase one (it was the touch screen thing). The iPhone is like the super device that is not supposed to do anything wrong.
HOWEVER! There is one small minor problem which is unbeliveable! The mail client on the iPhone is crazy! BIG Time!
First I noticed that it didn’t retrieve my emails unless I prompt it to update and do so. Then I played around with the settings and push notifications trying to make it recieve an email the moment it is delivered to my inbox. No such luck. I would update the bloody thing and nothing will come up while my inbox does indeed have many emails waiting to be read.
I made my peace with that. So the BB would receive my emails a second before it would appear on the computer, the iPhone won’t. Emails are not everything on earth right?
Until one day it started.
I received an email that I’ve read quickly on the go. I remember being happy about it. I decided to get back to it later and read it thoroughly. Later on the day I’ve searched all the folders on my email, on the iPhone and on my pc, but I couldn’t find it. Not even in the Trash or the Spam.
It simply vanished. I couldn’t believe it, iPhone wouldn’t do that to my emails for sure right? I must have imagined I recieved it, there is no record of it coming into my inbox whatsover.
Then it happened again! And again! And again and again and again and again! To this date within 2 months of usage I’ve lost nearly 20 emails! I can’t have imagined all those emails arriving to my inbox! I am very careful when I open and close them because I am aware they might “vanish” into thin air! I searched for them carefully! To no Luck!!!
Is this normal? Is it only my iPhone? Is it every iPhone? I can live with the delayed mail delivery, but why on earth is it hiding my emails from me? This is a major catastrophic fail in an email client provided by a leading company like Apple! Do you have any solution for that? Help?
I first came to know of the word “Lomography” when I was walking in Selfridges last December and I came upon a full display of colorful cameras in different designs. Small grainy pictures were scattered here and there and a red box logo with white “Lomography” written inside was present as well. I took a picture of them wanting to google later.
Then a few days afterwards I was walking in Carnaby Street when I saw a small shop dedicated entirely to those small colorful cameras. December being holidays time meant the shop was closed so I couldn’t go inside and properly ask about what the fuss is all about. I forgot all about it until I saw the picture of the shop window front today and now I am online trying to make sense of Lomography.
To be frank I still don’t get it. The picture quality is not all that, if anything its grainy, like something produced with the early models of mobile phone cameras on my old nokia. They say something about contrast and color and saturation, again I don’t get why I can’t get the same results using my Canon for example? Why do I need to go and buy a small colorful camera that looks like a camera I had in my teens to produce tiny grainy images?
Am I being closed minded or tasteless? Do I need to broaden my mind? Or is there something about it that I don’t get? I don’t know. I need someone to explain it better to me. So if you own a Lomography camera or think its worth purchasing, please enlighten me?
Look to your right, yes right there, on the top of the 1st column or what is technically called first side bar. You’ll see there is a Followgram button followed by an instagram Badge, both for my instagram account.
If you click on the Followgram button you will be re-directed to an instagram page of mine on line. To get your Followgram button click here (link).
Bellow the Followgram button there is an instagram account badge with my 3 recent pictures and my stats. I’ve been torn between using this Badge from Badge Plz (link) or an using an instagram widget downloaded here (link). I actually went first with the instagram widget then changed my mind because the Badge Plz offered me the option to resize and recolour my border which I did.
So now you have no excuse. If you read my blog and have an instagram account, follow me! I am aiming for the target of 750 followers 😀 If you have an instagram account, saw this, and still didn’t follow me then eshda3wa ya 7afoth? Why not?
To recap: if you want to add a followgram button on your blog you can do so here (link) or if you want to add an instagram widget click here (link) or an instagram badge click here (link). Remember to backup first!

Two years ago as I was browsing Boots aisles in the UK I stumbled upon a new product called “Philips Lumea”. A compact handheld light emitting device that can be used at home to remove excess hair once and for all.
At first I was skeptic. It must be a sham or something like it. Could it be? A laser like hair removal at home? It was simply too good to be true. The price tag of Read more »
I have finally put down Steve Jobs biography yesterday at 7 P.M. I sat up for a moment, then went to put on my 7ejab and my favorite white crocs and headed out the door to iCity.
I got me an iPad 2 and was this close to getting an iPhone and an iMac. Only I realized paying a 1000 KD in one night probably wasn’t a very smart move. I took the iPad home, marveled at its minimalist modern beauty, and started using it until the wee hours of morning.
Now I am on Instagram and it was so so SO MUCH FUN and easy to use! Follow me at Danderma! I only have 19 followers w3liya
I also would like to say that the late Mr. Jobs and I share so many things in common. His picky vegan diets -I am a vegetarian- his inability to stand formal meetings and powerpoint slides -they make me itch, get to the point- his intolerance to stupidity and not liking to waste time with things with no potential. His fast paced intuitive decisions is something I truly understand. If it feels right I do it, if its not I don’t. His love for minimalist modern sleek designs. His mood swings. All like me.
What I used to consider as a flaw in my personality, my short tempers when faced with stupidity and my rash decision making and inability to prolong decisions until I dissect every aspect, all are key features of a man, a perfectionist, who changed the world as we know it. I have come to accept my “flaws” now. No one is perfect, you cannot change who you are and hide away from it. Embrace yourself and let the bad traits drive you to benefit people. I suppose anyways…
So in any case, I am a late Apple bloomer and I am on Instagram 😀 Find Danderma, find me!
The other day we were driving around when we saw this funny sticker on a car! We took the photo 3la 6ool with my BB’s camera and laughed for a very long time.
I think it pretty much sums up the current Apple Android war :p Especially given the latest action by Steve Wozniak co-founder of Apple and the man who actually built the Apple 1 & 2 and is now happily siding with Android. Sorry Apple fans, its Android’s era now :p
One of the things I truly enjoy when I am abroad is the ability to pay for my own purchases without needing to stand in line waiting for a human cashier, especially if I have a few items to pay for.
Not everyone prefers self checkout machines but I truly do. If I see a self checkout machine I immediately head towards it. I just love it. I love the independent feel I get from scanning my own items and bagging them, paying and taking off in mere minutes. It goes with my irritable nature and keeps me on the move for there is nothing more I hate more than waiting unnecessarily for something as mundane as paying for my purchases.
I really want to see this advanced piece of technology here in Kuwait. Why not? We have Cinescape’s Smart Card machines and more people are using them every day! Please tell me if your life hadn’t become easier ever since they were introduced in the early 2000’s? Now why can’t we have the same in, say, TSC? Or Carrefour? Geant?
Today on twitter TSC asked if there was something we would like to talk about and I said yes, I suggest they get Self Checkout machines like most advanced grocery shops abroad. They promised that the request will be sent to the management. Lets just hope and see if it does get implemented. I am keeping my fingers crossed for this dream to come true.
Would you use a self checkout machine if it was in Kuwait? Do you use it abroad?

QLendar is basically a local events calendar where users of Kuwait submit and share local events with each others in one place rather than browsing many websites to get events.
Users would be able to check the QLendar on daily basis and keep up to date with what’s happening in Kuwait -Such as my book signing for example ;p-. With QLendar you will never miss an event again or be at loss if you are bored with nothing to do and no where to go at home 😀
If you have an event you wish to add please email the Qlendar admin for the time being on support@qlendar.com
Best of Luck QLendar 😀
