Danderma actually has a meaning. It is not a nickname for Dana, it is not a nice sounding word only, it is not a just a name. It is the old Kuwaiti word for ice cream. It was the first thing Iooked for when I bought the Kuwaiti Dialect Encyclopedia and sure enough there it was :)

If you didn’t know what Danderma meant until this post, what did you think it meant? I’m curious…

Sadly even grown ups don’t know what it means! I have had so many men and women ask why I chose the nickname danderma if I was called dana because it can mean nothing else! It drove me crazy!

oooh I am sorry I thought it was your real name:p…sorry, not good in arabic that much…lol…dana is such a nice name n the nick is so feminine and musical! :)

Honestly, when I saw the name of the blog. I ran into my father and told him what the word means, sadly he didn’t knew it and said I doubt it’s a word. By then, I just thought that it was an “unique” nickname for Dana;p

I know that it is the Turkish word for ice cream, it is not Kuwaiti but was used in Kuwait

Well many of the words used in the Kuwaiti dialect come from different languages: Turkish, Indian, Persian, English, etc. Whether or not its usage entitles it to be a “Kuwaiti” even if it originates from another language is something to think about :)
