Blast from the Past: King & Baloons on MSX

By | March 18, 2012

I really doubt anyone would remember this game. Its simply ancient! When I first discovered my MSX emulator I started remembering my old games and searched for them by name. However this game I didn’t remember. Then one day as I was playing it just hit me: there was a game with baloons!

There was a game where we used to shoot baloons! What game was that? I remember that I loved it dearly, that we didn’t own the cartridge of the game and had to wait to go to one of my cousin’s houses to play it, and that we had to take turns and when it was my long awaited turn I would be ecstatic. I searched high and low for this game until I found it: King & Baloons is its name! So the little fella is a king and we are supposed to be defending him y7leelah!

The game is addictive. It literally doesn’t change in pace and it doesn’t end, but still I would play it whenever I feel there is something on my brain that I need to release and escape from. A great stress releaver for sure.

Do you, by any chance, remember this game on MSX sakhar?

Yes, I remember this game. Well, only partially.
I remember playing the game at my uncle on some other computer system which also had it. When the next time I was allowed to buy game came around, I got the MSX version on a data cassette.
However, I was always unlucky with those. You see, my brother and I were both allowed to pick one game each, but every time he picked a game that worked without problems, and I picked one that wouldn’t start. As ‘luck’ would have it, King & Balloon was one of those that didn’t work for me. :(
I still have the original data cassette sitting in a closet here, but as I grew so disappointed in never getting it to run, I haven’t really bothered any more with trying to get it to work years later. Maybe I should. 😉

But if it didn’t start, couldn’t you choose another one? But I remember the feeling, our Rambo cartridge didn’t live very long, I think it was OK for about three weeks or so and then it went bust. No matter what we did, it wouldn’t start the game again and asking my father to replace it was out of the question. I kept the cartridge for years hoping it would one day wake up, but then the emulators came and I let go.

    Hello Danderma,

This game is named “King & Balloon” and was made by Japanese NAMCO. You can see pictures of the original Japanese release here:

    Best Regards,
