Help: How and Where to Convert my VHS tapes into DVD?

By | April 15, 2012

I love my old video, I really do. I have no intention of letting it go anytime soon. However I have several contents on old VHS video tapes that I want to convert into computer friendly format: mp3, mp4, burn on dvd, or maybe upload to youtube and share with others.

There was a store in Jabriya that helped me out last year but they took like 3 KD and one week to convert the one tape I wanted and this year they have closed down. My husband claims we have some sort of device he can connect between the video and the computer which helps in the transformation but he has to “unearth it” and given that I know for sure that such device doesn’t exist in his possessions I am not willing to wait.

Do you have any idea how or where I can get those VHS tapes on my pc ASAP? Help please!

Okay I have a solution for you!

Your Geeky friend is useful for once 😛

There was this VCR + DVD Recorder/Player that I purchased from Xcite 3-4 years ago that allowed you to transform your VHS tapes into DVD formats. All you would do is insert the tape and a blank DVD and click on one of the buttons and viola once the movie finishes (an hour or two based on the length of it) the conversion would be done.

From then on you will need a software on the computer to rip the DVD into an MP4; MPEG; AVI format and I’ve got some recommendations for Mac Sofwares but not sure about any Windows.

It is all easily google-able 😛

Hope that helped. Will take a picture of my VCR at home and show it to you mother purchased it to transform her old VHS help tapes and was able to save them on her computer to help with school presentations and such.

Do u have a VCR to play these tapes?..if yes, then just play them and attach this device and connect to your laptop and it will convert…

If not then I hope u find a similar store who converts…try any normal photo studios, the kind that make videos of events, they might convert it for u…

My husband says he has this thing but if he did then why didn’t we use it and where is it in the first place!? Might be worth looking for given that I have more than one video to convert!

    Hey D

Try going to any of the photo studios like Kodak / ashraf company..and ask them to transfer it for you on DVD format. They’ll do it easy peasy.

I was going to recommend you what Jacqui & the others have already recommended. VCR-DVD player-recorder are amazing. There are softwares that help too, just google them up: type “VHS to DVD converter”. And about converting services, I’m sure you’re gonna find lots of shops which offer this service at any video store, for example, Hawally’s st. Ibn Khaldoon, & Mujamma3 Alre7ab (second floor), and at Salmiya’s st. Albahrain has a few shops, you can check ’em out. :)
Photography shops may also offer these services too.

I suppose Markaz Elfunoon can help out too! The ones in Salmiya? They seem to have a lot of equipment that would do the converting? I will check them out thank you :)

You think? I wonder why I didn’t think about that before? I will have to call them up and see!
