Do you love Mexican Food? Then you will love absolutely LOVE Wahaca!
One of the sad things about the Q8y culinary scene is the lack of a good wholesome Mexcian restaurant. If you are a fan of Mexican food, I highly recommend you try this restaurant the next time you are in London! Seeing that most of Q8 is heading there anyways, I thought I’d share my experience with you.
Wahaca has more than one location in London: Covent Garden, Wesfield Mall, and Canary Wharf. Since we were at Westfield Mall on a lovely cloudy May day we decided to stop by Wahaca for lunch.
Given that the restaurant is located in the Garden Terrace it was an amazing spot for people watching (our favorite hobby in Kuwait!) so we took a seat outside over looking the terrace path and the waterfall like fountain.
We took a look at the menu. We chose Guacamole & Tortilla Chips to start with then the Summer Vegetable Tacos and the Summer Vegetable Burrito. Here is a link to their menu
Diet coke was the choice for drinks.
Our starter, the guacamole & tortilla chips, did not disappoint.
The guacamole was really light and we didn’t feel weighed down after cleaning the tin can and the plate
Then the tacos arrived, grazing our table with their presence. Their description on the menu was “Three soft corn tortillas with Lightly sautéed courgettes, tomatoes and spinach with fresh tarragon, mint, feta and chipotle salsa.”
So tiny, so soft, with lots of flavors for such a tiny bite but it worked! the Feta cheese gave the whole combination a kick because it works really well with all those herbs involved! If you are hungry, order 3 of this dish or choose the Wahaca Taco Selection platter.
The Summer Vegetable Burrito was also really good! In the menu it is described as “Toasted flour tortillas wrapped around delicious fillings of Lightly sautéed courgettes, tomatoes and spinach with fresh tarragon, mint, feta and chipotle salsa.. With black beans, shredded cabbage, green rice, crema & totopos.”
The burrito came with a side of Fresh Tomato Salsa and chips. Fresh it was indeed!
Though the filling of the Burrito is essentially the same as the filling of the Tacos, the resemblance in taste ended right there! The Burrito was HUGE we had to cut it with a knife as no one would be able to bite that beast!
I usually disapprove of eating rice inside a Burrito, I did forget to order the burrito without the rice but you know what? It was really really good! I had to stop my self polishing off the entire thing. Not for diet purposes mind you, the moment I get on the plane I throw my diet out of the window. It was because of what coming next.
What comes next you say? Churros!!! Yes CHURROS! with a Chocolate Dip! The highlight of that glorious day!
I love Churros! I miss churros! They used to sell them once upon a time in cinescape theaters but they stopped -ill-fated move, would someone bring them back please?- and this order came with three pieces of churros and a side of yummy chocolate dip. So what did we do?
Fingers sticky with sugar granules and chocolate, we each had one. Then we both sat there eying the third piece! We were already too full but we still wanted that piece. Problem was no one was willing to share it with the other! It had to be all or nothing.
Who won the last piece? It doesn’t really matter at this point 😉 But you can understand why I’m recommending Wahaca for you to try the next time you are craving Mexican in London.
One final note regarding this place is they have excellent customer service! In my case if i dare touch a Jalapeño pepper, I would be lying in bed with the worst abdominal pain ever! So I emailed the restaurant in advance and asked them which items in the menu that come with Jalapeño so i should avoid it. Before the day was over I got a reply with a detailed menu items that do in fact contain Jalapeños. Thank you Ms. C. for all your help, I did truly enjoy my Wahaca Experience and will definitely be visiting again

Loved it! We don’t have decent Mexican restaurants in Riyadh either! I shall try it out next time I am in London enshallah… Your part about not wanting to share the last Churros really reminded me of Dathra.. heheh… I could easily see her doing that, but winning the battle for the last piece of course!
LooooooooooL good one… 😉
