Zawaya El Sha'3af… Take 2!

By | September 1, 2010

The passion that drives our contributions and achievements is what we try to showcase here..

The values of genuine interest and work, and other meanings is what we wish to celebrate..

“Zawaya Al Shaghaf”. The name translates into “The corners of passion” was brought to life in the summer of 2009, when a group of young men and women, in this case us, graduated from the Oqsim training course, conducted by Zawaya for public awareness.

We have a message, we believe in our message and we are all here today to join our voices together and say that ‘all different types of passions need to be celebrated, and our different passions, need to be glorified.  We bring these passions to life when we utilize them to contribute to our community, and we bring them to life when we channel them towards civic contribution and engagement.  When a contribution is driven by passion, distinct and genuine achievements are born.’

Our last years’ project held four angles, to know more about it visit www.Zawaya-Pa.com

This year we are trying to highlight the importance of not only the concept of Passion by celebrating different kinds of talents, but the concept of not judging a person by his/her colour, status or nationality through a short film. One should only be judged by the size of his/her heart and accomplishments.

“I am not my colour.. I am not my status.. I AM my passion”

We are not going to reveal more, stay tuned for more updates :)

But we do have a request if you may, we have a talents ad, Attached is the poster and bellow is the text, which we would like to share in your blog.

To whoever is talented and is willing to participate in one of a kind talent show, all you have to do is send an email containing a picture or a video concerning your talent on our e-mail address: amazing.t@hotmail.com

London's Kingsmill Toast in Lulu Hyper Market…!

By | August 31, 2010

One of the most amazing things we enjoy in the UK is their Toast. One of my sisters describes it as “khdood” and the other “Makhada”… I usually get my self a bag of toast when i am back and keep it in the Freezer for emergencies and nostalgia. Apparently i do not have to do that anymore…

When my baby sister announced that she was driving all alone if she has to to the new Lulu Hypermarket to get herself Kingsmill toast… i was skeptic. I was in Lulu a few days ago and i did NOT see any toast! She insisted… we drove there after futoor… and only when i actually held the bag of toast in my hands did i truely believe that yes… my 2nd favorite UK toast brand is here… and there are several varieties as well! Now we can have it… fresh and unfrozen and actually in the shelves of a local supermarket!

Insha2 Allah bs they don’t change their minds and stop stocking it!

Note: I must thank my Little Sister’s Friend R. for discovering it… thanks a billion :*

Su7oor Time in Q8?

By | August 28, 2010

When do you usually have Su7oor? If you have it at all?

No really… if we eat futoor at 6… when would be an appropriate time to eat the last meal of the day? At least 12 am mo?

y3ni 12 am 1 am 2 am are all reasonable and valid timings for Su7oor meal DURING ramadan mo?

Why is it then that at 1 AM we pass by Johnny Rockets Marina Crescent… only to find the parking lot empty and most of the restaurants closed already? Why is it that when we went to Jabriya Co-Op for Burger King we found the parking lot also empty and Kentucky’s door blocked with a chair?

La seriously when do they expect people to have su7oor? 11? 12? if they want to eat it later they would have to have a take away y3ni wella shino

Shino hal model b3d? Min meta il ma6a3em itsaker 12:30 in Ramadan? Is it a new thing wella shino?

HELP: Where to cut my hair in Kuwait?

By | August 19, 2010

Help!

I am the biggest Salon Gobesa in Q8. If you follow me on twitter you may recall my epic tweets on getting highlights in a respectable well known salon in Q8 and how it went severely wrong.

Now I am in desperate need of cutting my hair. Not just a trim, a good respectable hair cut. I was planning on cutting it in the same salon i had my highlights in and they cut well with a heat thing scissors b3d… but I vowed never to go back therefore I’m now lost. I literally lost, I have no place I’d trust to cut my hair.

I need a place that is: Professional, Clean, Respects their Clients and their Appointments, Do not allow someone to cut in before you unannounced, and they would be able to give me a modern hair cut without too much philosophical notions and experiments. The Hairdresser should have what is called “Green Hands” too. All British Salons are out for they choke when they see my hair (So no Tony & Guy or Cutting Edge or Strands). Carita is out too, so is La Mode.

Where do i go for a haircut? Help Me out Please!

Do or Don't: Futoor in a Restaurant?

By | August 19, 2010

So many people i know do not mind going out for Futoor. I have always wanted to have futoor outside my home in my 30 years of existence. I did it once. and i didn’t like it at all to be frank.

I have my futoor rituals. I have to be in comfortable clothing. I have to pray before eating anything or i wouldn’t enjoy one bite of my futoor. and i like having my family around me… sometimes rowdy and chatty, sometimes quite and solemn, depending on the mood. Then afterwards i look for the nearest couch, sprawl on it and drink something hot while watching TV and chatting with my family.

I cannot even have futoor in someone else’s home. At3asar o i want my couch and TV and peace and quite. So going out to some restaurant for futoor surrounded by a bunch of strangers and watching the food getting cold and not being able to pray at once is beyond me. But then people are doing it all the time… why can they do it while i can’t?

Do you have any futoor rituals? Do you like going out for futoor in a restaurant? Do you really enjoy your futoor there?

Laish Ma Y9eer In9ob Banzeen?

By | August 18, 2010

As i opened my window and turned off my engine on a hot & suffocating summer night, waiting for the fuel station worked to bestow upon me his divided attention and fill my car tank with gasoline, i began to lose my patience.

You see the man is over worked. There are a LOT of cars. LOTS of women inside. All of them (ok us) park and open our windows and wait. Of course i began to sweat and hate my life. and of course the man took forever to come fill Read more »

Recommended: Bliss Spa Facial Mask

By | August 17, 2010

My sister showed me this heavenly product yesterday. A facial mask by Bliss Spa that has both Oxygen and Vitamin C, making it the perfect remedy for tired skin. In five minutes the skin becomes more radiant and so soft you.

She got it from the UK for £38 pounds and it’s totally worth it! I know there is a bliss spa in Dubai festival city but the question is, do you know if they stock Bliss Spa Product in Kuwait? They have a matching cream to the mask…

Do You Remember this Cake?

By | August 8, 2010

I was in Mishref Co-Op searching for some bread when i found those neatly stacked pink and yellow packages…

I picked one up… and i cannot believe i have forgotten all about those cakes! We used to love those cakes when we were kids! I don’t remember the last time i had any but i remember the taste well! Thin white vanilla sponge covered with a layer of crunchy pink frosting and cut into squares! I was a child again waiting impatiently to eat that little sugary square!

Do you remember those cakes? Do you still eat those cakes? I put them back promptly… no need for the extra calories but they it felt good to see them again :D

Old Cartoons on DVD…

By | August 6, 2010

Whenever i am in Dubai i make sure i pass by a video store or a Virgin Mega Store and browse whatever old cartoon collections they have available for sale. I love our old cartoons. I still watch our old cartoons and i think the cartoons of the current generation are pathetic -aside from Conan-

I do have some of our old cartoons on video tape but the quality is horrible. I wonder why no one sells our old cartoons in neatly packaged official DVD box sets like they do in Dubai. Is it very hard? You can find some DVD’s of old cartoons in Hawalli but they are way overpriced and some even tells you CD 3 has no voice or Episodes 5-6 are missing…!

Do you still watch old 80′s cartoons? What cartoon you would like to find…

Help Needed: What Wakes you Up in the Morning?

By | August 4, 2010

For the past few weeks i have been having a hard time waking up. I tried every thing: I slept earlier, i slept after eating a very light dinner, i changed my wakeup time several times,  i have one alarm clock blaring far away and my phone alarm right under my ear, both wake me up on time but i would just get up, shut off the far alarm, and hit snooze on my mobile and go back into deep sleep! Hence i arrive to work very late and that’s not pretty at all! I have to be at work no later than 7:30 yet every day i stroll in after 8!

How do you force yourselves to wake up and actually get out of bed in the morning? My old techniques do not seem to be working anymore! Help?
