Book Review: The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes

By | October 2, 2012

I picked up this book last year because it was highly acclaimed with positive reviews everywhere even though It was small and the cover was grey and a bit dreary, not something I’d usually pick up while book hunting. Not the most alluring looking book, I didn’t start reading it until last week and Read more »

Trend: Lomography Photography

By | March 18, 2012

I first came to know of the word “Lomography” when I was walking in Selfridges last December and I came upon a full display of colorful cameras in different designs. Small grainy pictures were scattered here and there and a red box logo with white “Lomography” written inside was present as well. I took a picture of them wanting to google later.

Then a few days afterwards I was walking in Carnaby Street when I saw a small shop dedicated entirely to those small colorful cameras. December being holidays time meant the shop was closed so I couldn’t go inside and properly ask about what the fuss is all about. I forgot all about it until I saw the picture of the shop window front today and now I am online trying to make sense of Lomography.

To be frank I still don’t get it. The picture quality is not all that, if anything its grainy, like something produced with the early models of mobile phone cameras on my old nokia. They say something about contrast and color and saturation, again I don’t get why I can’t get the same results using my Canon for example? Why do I need to go and buy a small colorful camera that looks like a camera I had in my teens to produce tiny grainy images?

Am I being closed minded or tasteless? Do I need to broaden my mind? Or is there something about it that I don’t get? I don’t know. I need someone to explain it better to me. So if you own a Lomography camera or think its worth purchasing, please enlighten me?

Would you eat those chocolates?

By | March 15, 2012

Selfridges chocolate hall had, since last December, been selling two new “peculiar” flavors of chocolate: Marmite and Tabasco!

I am not a fan of marmite at all so there is no way on earth am I going to try its chocolate, urgh! But the tabasco one? Every time I pass by I look at it, grab it, imagine it would taste like chili chocolate, almost buy it, then put it back because I don’t like tabasco either. Tantalizing for sure but I am very picky and wouldn’t want to waste money on a bite of chocolate when I can buy many more other types of chocolate.

What do you think? Have you tasted any of those chocolates or known someone who did? Would you buy them either to consume or as a cruel souvenir joke for example? Would you taste any of them?

Cadbury Flavored Philadelphia Cheese

By | March 11, 2012

I’ve recently got my hands on a new product from the UK’s markets: Cadbury Chocolate Flavored Philadelphia Cheese!

At first I thought: Cadbury and Philadelphia cheese? Yuck! Of course I did not even think of trying it but my husband bravely took a slice of toast and spread it with a dollop of the concoction. He loved it so I had to try and see for myself.

It is not too weird, not as weird as I thought it would be. It doesn’t taste like philadelphia and it doesn’t taste like Nuttela. I am not a fan of Nuttella at all because of the sugar hazelnut sa7na but the Cadbury Philadelphia doesn’t have a sa7na flavor and is not too sweet. Its more like Nuttella for grown ups. Very creamy, sweet enough but not too sweet, and has the slightest tang aftertaste, very slight but its not a bad one, makes it a bit different. If anything it reminded me a lot of Lorenzo’s famous chocolate cheesecake.

It comes in small packets for you to try first. It doesn’t work well with fruit dipped inside so its best used with toast or in making cakes. I would recommend it.

Things 2 Get 4m London: This Works No Wrinkles Get Started Kit

By | January 25, 2012

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this before but I have a “slight” obsession about fine line, wrinkles, and grey hair. So I am always on the look out for whatever product is out there that promises to keep wrinkles at bay or minimize their appearance. After all I got my first set of wrinkles between my eyebrows at age 21, a blessing from the college of Engineering.

Therefore whenever I am in London I make sure to lurk in the beauty section of every department store or boots around and haul whatever that promises me to keep aging  signs at bay. This year I read a lot of good reviews about the “This Work No Wrinkles Active Serum” so I set about to searching for it. To my delight I found a small bottle sample for sale in a kit together with a no wrinkles extreme moisturizer.

The good thing about this kit is that its small in size and has two products that complement each other. So if you don’t like the results you are not wasting a bottle full of product. After all they are not cheap.

What makes me happy is that the products contain Retinol and Vitamin C, both of which are active ingredients that does make a difference to your complexion if used regularly. Anyways I’ve heard a lot about them and I got them, you can get them too whenever you are in London.

“Things 2 Get 4m London: HMV’s Box Sets

By | December 28, 2011

Even though people download their shows I still prefer the old school method of buying DVDs. The best place to purchase DVD’s is to buy them from HMV as they usually have box sets of entire TV serieses or movies and sell them for amazing prices too! For example I got the entire series of the popular 24 show for £49 only and the entire series of LOST for  £49 as well! I also got the entire collection of Harry Potter Movies from 1 to 8 which includes the Deathly Hollow 2 for £32 and the entire Fast & the Furious movie collection including Fast Five for £29. The planet of the Apes movie collection from old to new cost me only £10!

And I am still not done :p What can I say, DVD box sets gives me more pleasure that clothes and khalajeen!

I’ve Got My Own Monopoly Deal :D

By | November 15, 2011

Ever since I’ve seen the first Monopoly board in my aunt’s house in the early 80’s I became a huge Monopoly fan and it became my favorite board game (post). When I heard about the Monopoly Deal card game and how its a big habba now I so wanted to own one and play with it. The thing about the original Monopoly is it takes a lot of time and space to set up hence no one has the time to play with you!

Of course its sold out in Kuwait and in the UK as well. But my favorite cousin Abdullah who just arrived from the UK has found me one and snatched it for me 😀 He came over yesterday at night and gave it to me and I couldn’t be happier to get my hands on the Monopoly deck!

Still didn’t play it but I am planning to do so tonight. I’m so excited 😀

Thank you dear 3obada for your generous thoughtfulness. You truly made my day yesterday 😀

P.S. if you are in London and can’t find a Monopoly Deal try W.H. Smith!

Books to Read: Onward by Howard Schultz

By | September 29, 2011

When I was in London and in selected branches of Starbucks I used to find this book on sale in the Starbucks merchandise section. It was a very interesting book, Starbucks, the successful coffee chain’s business wasn’t always rainbows and roses, this is the story of how it was was put back on track, and I am always inspired by success stories.

I wanted to get this book, I really did, but I had already purchased too many books and had to leave half of them behind anyways. I am so going to get it the next time I am in London for sure for I don’t suppose it will make an appearance in Kuwait’s Starbucks branches anytime soon.

Thing 2 Get 4m London: Flavored Earl Grey Tea

By | September 28, 2011

If you are a fan of Earl Grey tea then you will be very happy with the 3 new flavors the inventor of Earl Grey tea had come up with: Jasmine Earl Grey, Lavender Earl Grey, and Orange Blossom Earl Grey!

I wonder how long would it be before those flavors make it into the Kuwaiti market but until they do I would highly recommend them from the UK. They are available in tins of 20 tea bags and would make a great 9oo’3a for tea lovers back home.

Habba Alert: m&m’s hoodies

By | September 24, 2011

The hoodie wearing habba has been around for quite some time now. Personally I’ve always been a fan of hoodies. In case you haven’t heard already it is considered a habba now to go into wear a hoodie bought from the m&m’s store in London or the USA. In fact they are quite hard to find now since rabe3na buy them bel habal and you would be lucky if you found your size in the hoodie of your choice, if any size at all.

So if you are travelling soon or know anyone who is travelling to a place with a m&m’s store ask them for a hoodie as a soo’3a!

Things 2 Get 4m London: Limited Edition Royal Wedding Tea

By | September 5, 2011

I was in Twinnings store the other day (post) when I saw this tin above. Twinnngs have come up with a limited edition tea blend to celebrate the Royal Wedding of Prince William to Catherine Middleton.

The Tea is white tea -white as in weddings and white dress- with Rose flavor. Very British indeed. I love love LOVE Rose tea and I have taken a liking to white tea ever since I went on the Diet Ninja’s diet. We tried the tea and it was really good. If you like Rose flavor in your tea then you will definitely like this very new very healthy tea blend for sure. I personally do. Highly recommended.

A photo of mine made it to the Schmap London Guide!

By | July 20, 2011

I received an email a few days back informing me that one of my Flickr pictures had been shortlisted for inclusion in the sixteenth edition of our Schmap London Guide of July 2011. The Schmap London Guide is an online downloadable London guide with dynamic London maps. , to be published late July 2011.

There is no payment but I was told that many photographers are pleased to have their work exposed in the Schmap guides. The July edition came out today and my picture was included (link). Sure enough, I was more than happy to see my picture associated with my favorite department store of all time, Selfridges <3

I am so so SO HAPPY! Thank you Schmap guide 😀
