I’ve been bored by, well everything really. Do you ever seem to think that everything in life is the same? Same activities, same faces, same places, same routine, same old and nothing is new happening anymore?

Enter the key hunt for the By Parker’s restaurant!

You see, there is something about having to earn your entry into a new food establishment. I recall once reading something like that in a magazine about a spot in a trendy hipster part of London, that unless you answer the gatekeeper’s riddle you won’t be allowed to climb through the wall into the restaurant or something. I loved the intrigue, the being there but out of reach except for the worthy kind of attitude. Of course its also fun, that’s why I’ve been following the SnapChat of by Parker’s in Dubai forever and deciding that the moment I set foot in Dubai, on the very night I do, I’m not going to rest until I do hunt for the key and actually claim it for myself. Visiting Dubai’s Ramadan Night Market

By | September 11, 2013

rmid-019

I’ve always heard that the exhibitions that are held in the UAE were spectacular and amount of effort that goes into those expos was unparalleled. I’ve never had the chance to go to an expo in Dubai before but while I was visiting this past Eid holiday I learned from the instagram account of fellow blogger Karamillah from the Abu Dhabi, that her cookie business, K’s Cookies, will be participating in a Ramadan Night Market expo in Dubai and I knew I had to pass by and check it out. When I was last in Dubai I kept hearing and reading reviews of a Circle cafe. The reviews raved about the lovely interior and really distinguished food. One morning as we were driving down Jumeirah Road we saw Circle Cafe and decided to stop for breakfast. Read more »

Breakfast at Jones the Grocer in Dubai

By | August 28, 2013

bajtgid-008

For a while now I kept hearing raving reviews about a Jones the Grocer, an Australian franchise restaurant/deli/gourmet grocery shop that’s recently opened up in Dubai. I’ve seen pictures and read the reviews and could tell it was an excellent popular place that I’d love to visit. Therefore when I was in Dubai I made sure I head over for breakfast and go early, I’ve heard they are always busy with eager diners. Read more »

Heil & Zafa’aran Eid Breakfast Basket

By | August 27, 2013

hwzb-015

Just before the start of the Eid holiday Heil & Zafa’arn, a local bakery selling traditional Kuwaiti desserts and sweets, sent me a big basket filled with their goodies. The basket had a greeting card attached to it with the words “Eid Breakfast” printed on it in Arabic, and a lavish Eid breakfast basket it was indeed! Read more »

The Moons of Forgiveness Display in Dubai Mall

By | August 26, 2013

There is something magical about Arabian calligraphy, I’ve always stopped and admired a beautifully written letter in Arabic for as long as I could remember, and there are many different fonts, each spectacular in it’s own way. When I was last in Dubai I was walking around in Dubai Mall when I saw a spectacular sight that made me stop and pay attention. Read more »

Breakfast at The Farm Restaurant in Dubai

By | August 22, 2013

tfbp-014

Each time I’m in Dubai there must be a list of newly opened places I’ve never been before to explore. On the top of my list was The Farm restaurant recommended by many people I know, doing so while gushing about the breathtaking scenery and the amazing food. Since I was there for the Eid holiday and the first breakfast after Ramadan is my number one breakfast of the year, I knew I it should be in The Farm. Read more »

Lamy’s Perfumes Eid Gift

By | August 18, 2013

lpeg-006

Just before the Eid holiday I received a lovely Eidiya from the lovely Lamya Al-Farsi, the owner of Lamy’s Perfumes, a local perfume making business. I’ve had the pleasure to meet Lamya a while back in a perfume exhibition where she mixed perfumes from different scents on the spot (post). Lamy’s perfumes are well known for their different and sometimes daring scents, you wouldn’t find any other Kuwaiti perfume maker who would make scents like ice cream or cheesecakes for example. On the night before I left for my eid holiday in Dubai my friend Mira whatsapped me about Yamanoti, a newly opened Japanese bakery & cafe in Dubai thinking I’d like to check it out. She was right of course, for the moment I set my eyes on their instagram account I knew I wanted to try it on the first day of Eid and I did manage to do so.  Read more »

The Gelato Marathon

By | August 17, 2013

tgmag-002

Since the holy month of Ramadan and Eid days are now over I’m trying to get into my normal daily life routine, plus going on a diet to control my appetite after the daily feasts of the past few weeks. I have been doing very good, only my friends who I haven’t been out with in forever were craving gelato and one thing led to another and we found ourselves having a mini gelato marathon in the Avenues. Beautiful Dubai During Ramadan & Eid

By | August 15, 2013

dear-014

This post is to remember the very last day of Ramadan 1434 and the first days of eid I’ve spend in Dubai in 2013. Dubai was quite busy as usual, hot and humid during August for sure, but the festive mood was indeed in the air with Ramadan decorations and eid celebrations.  Read more »

Movie Review: The Internship

By | August 15, 2013

mrtis

I’ve seen the trailer for this movie a while back and I knew it was one movie I really wanted to watch. Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson are two salesmen who lose their jobs and they look everywhere but can only, and miraculously, secure an internship at the one and only Google. Having to compete against a herd of geeky genius seniors with zilch knowledge of how computers work, you know their internship would be one long interesting adventure.   Read more »

The Breakfast of Eid Al- Adha 1433 :D

By | November 7, 2011

As a vegetarian I don’t particularly enjoy sheep and meat based lunches. I’ve never liked mechabees o qowazee or their smell so I avoid them like the plaque. Also I am a breakfast person and I sleep in during the Eid so its always breakfast that’s the highlight of my Eid day!

My breakfast yesterday was a nice frozen blended mocha with an extra shot of coffee, dark chocolate, and fat free whip with a cheese & zaatar croissant from Caribu delivered to my couch and ordered via 6alabat.com 😀

What was your amazing meal of yesterday?

Good Saturday Morning…

By | November 5, 2011

Good Saturday morning, or well, afternoon but its a Saturday in a long weekend and i guess many have decided to sleep in and just woke up like me.

What are you having for breakfast? I am craving a continental one: Croissants, soft bread, butter, and jam with a cup of strong good coffee. This is a breakfast I had in the avenues 2 weeks ago but they close at 12 and I guess I am too late for breakfast now :(

If you are abroad o staying in a hotel you might get to have a continental breakfast after all! Enjoy your Saturday 😀 I am still trying to figure out what to do today?

Going to Hajj This Year…

By | October 16, 2011

This year my Butootee has decided to go to Hajj insha2 Allah. Its his first time going to 7ajj to “explore” before he takes me in the years to come insha2 Allah 😀

So he has done his homework and searched for the best 7amla to take him to Mecca especially considering he is going all alone. He chose a small 7amla called Labeek and will be sharing his room with two other men he doesn’t know. So recently all we’ve been doing is preparing for his trip.

First he had to go get his 7ajj vaccinations which took us several days going from one medical center to another until we found the right one. Then we had to go buy him the 7ajj e7ram’s. He bought 3 only but I think we need to buy him some more. he bought white slippers and a black belt so I guess his e7ram outfit is complete? Bought the dettol wipes as well and the 7amla gave him a big bag and a handbag that must be packed and ready to be shipped on October the 27th.

What else do people buy to prepare for 7ajj? I remember hearing about a scent-free toiletry kit for 7ajj but I don’t know from where to buy it. Tried Al-Shaye3 and they only had the deodorant. I suppose he needs towels mo? and a clean change of clothes for when he finishes his 7ajj rituals. What about socks? Or blankets?

Have you been to 7ajj before? Is there something you recommend we buy? and from where?

Sick and Slow…

By | September 5, 2011

I haven’t taken a well deserved vacation from work for a very long time. Yet here I am on the first day of my vacation, in the UK my happy place on earth, and I am sick with a bad flu!

Bloody flu started the 2nd day of my arrival last week which is the night before Eid, and still won’t go! I am always tired and I want to crash and sleep. I am sweating like a pig, and my throat is killing me. I can’t taste food properly. I am there but I am not there since I feel spacey from the flu. I don’t have antibiotics with me :'(

So the posting on my blog will be a bit slow so will be answering on comments. I will try and schedule a few posts for next week while I hopefully get over the flu.
