A few days back I was invited by Triangle restaurant to try their new and different menu. I like triangle a lot and have seen pictures of their “new” items so needless to say I made sure to go with a good hungry appetite knowing exactly what I wanted to try. Lets say I was not disappointed at all and I’m warning you, dangerous pictures are awaiting you below.
Lucky for me, I arrived on a Saturday during a lull in the lunch service. It was between lunch and dinner and so I had the place to myself and took as many pictures as I’ve liked without bothering other diners. By the time I got to my main course though, the restaurant had filled up and there was a waiting list! So if my colourful pictures make you want to have your next meal over at Triangle, make sure to call before you go to make sure there are available tables. Waiting list I tell you! Read more »
The other day I was invited for a tasting dinner in Nutri, one of Kuwait City’s newest restaurants located in Dar Al-Awadhi and specialising in providing light and healthy meals in a restaurant setting. Back in December the much loved and very popular Turkish cafe Mado finally opened its doors in Kuwait. The opening followed a long period of anticipation on instagram with many devoted followers asking about the opening date. I was travelling when it did open, early December 2014, and I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews about it all of them advising me me to wait a bit until they get on their feet and ran things smoothly. One famous restaurant in Kuwait is, or rather was, the 99 restaurant in Salhiya well known and loved for its pizza. A while back the doors of 99 Salhiya were bordered up and the sign taken down, another bearing the name Scafalli took its place. My friend and fellow blogger Ansam has been busy lately. A couple of weeks ago she finally was going to share her love of food with the rest of us with the launch of “Karak Gholam”, Kuwait’s newest Karak cafe where Ansam is a co-owner. Karak is a drink that’s basically tea, milk, sugar, and Indian spices cooked together. Rather, its the equivalent of a spiced chai latte and I’m not sure if Karak is the official Indian name for it but its been forever popular in neighbouring GCC countries like Qatar and the UAE and is currently taking Kuwait by storm. I think it was back during the holy month of Ramadan when I first started following the instagram account of GIA cafe. They were testing their dishes and I knew by looking at what they had to offer that I wanted to try them out, really wanted to, for they reminded me of Ottelenghi’s in London. I’m a big fan of Salad Boutique, always been and always will. I’ve ordered their salads on many occasions before, either to take with me for a gathering or to simplify salad making for gatherings held at my place. I don’t usually order them for my own meals though since the portion is too big and it takes me several days to finish one salad which ends up old and wilted, and wilted salads are not that fun per-say. I always wondered why they don’t introduce individual portion salads suitable for one person and they didn’t until last week when they launched their new corporate solution menu. Read more »
Last week was the opening diner, a new burger place in Kuwait City and the newest addition to the thriving and already saturated burger scene in town. Why would I go to another burger place? Because they are the first in Kuwait to serve the Ramen Burger, the latest burger craze that took NYC by a storm, replacing the bun with Ramen noodles.
Last week we had the pleasure of being invited to a private tasting event of the new menu at The Butcher’s Den. I’ve been to the Butcher’s Den before and liked it a lot although the service was a bit clunky since they were in their soft opening phase still. There, at the very end of the Seif strip of restaurant overlooking the Seif Palace, sits a restaurant space that now has the name Pintxos. Many restaurants have come and gone in this particular spot, an Italian one if I recall correctly, then another Japanese one. None of the restaurants that opened in that spot were successful even though the area is popular and the restaurant space is big with lovely outdoors seating. It wasn’t meant to be I suppose. For a while now I kept hearing raving reviews about a Jones the Grocer, an Australian franchise restaurant/deli/gourmet grocery shop that’s recently opened up in Dubai. I’ve seen pictures and read the reviews and could tell it was an excellent popular place that I’d love to visit. Last weekend I had the pleasure of having Man’oushe Saj Trays sent to me for my iftar table. Man’oushe is a Lebanese restaurant and they provided me with four different boxes of saj sandwiches with different condiments in each box. The box is sturdy and the contents are neatly arranged inside on plastic plates and covered with a plastic paper. Read more »
The last qerqaia’an gift I received for the holy month of Ramadan this year was the one sent to me by Planet Hollywood Restaurant in Kuwait. An acrylic tray decorated with the US flag and filled with Hershey’s chocolates, Planet Hollywood’s memorabilia, and a fresh jasmine flower necklace that is all the rage these days in Kuwait. Triangle restaurant had their own way of celebrating the occasion of qerqaia’an during the holy month of Ramadan by distributing their own qerqaia’an gifts. I received mine a few days ago, a bucket with my blog’s name in Arabic spray painted in red plus Triangle restaurant’s name and logo in black. The bucket was quite heavy and chock full of goodies. The other day I was out for lunch and I wasn’t feeling very hungry. When we were seated I asked for the children’s menu, only to be met by the waitress’s refusal to hand me one. Why? You cannot order a children’s meal for yourself if you are an adult. Read more »

The best part of Thursday starts the moment you’re done with your work and you begin feeling all free to begin enjoying your weekend. I love having lunch outside on Thursdays and one of my favourite dining spots recently is in Véranda of Harvey Nichols. I cannot get enough of the place! keep going back for the great food, the calm yet bubbly atmosphere, and the excellent location overlooking all the action in the grand Avenues yet undisturbed by the crowds while you are dining. Since the good weather doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon we decided to have a good lunch outdoors. We thought long and hard of the perfect place to enjoy the weather, the atmosphere, and most importantly the food and finally drove down to Spoons Complex to have lunch at Pizzetta. Someday Cafe opened earlier in January 2013 and ever since their opening I’ve heard good stuff about their food and their presentation. They’ve sent me a cute invitation before (post) and I’ve had the pleasure of dining there once. Their hot chocolate, sandwiches, tiny pancakes, atmosphere, and overall branding are very impressive. Ever since Véranda’s opening in March 2013 I’ve been there several times for different occasions and each and every time I’ve had a lip-smacking meal and an excellent time. The last time I was there was last Thursday with my friends. People were just out of work starting their weekend, the Avenues was filling up fast with people so we chose to go to Véranda: overlooking the weekend hubbub from the balcony but not bothered by the crowds.
